Loving the Word, Reading Christ
I started going to a Chinese Christian church when I was ten years old. However, my real experience of the Lord was three years later when I was thirteen years old. I received the Lord and was immediately baptized. Finally, I felt real joy and peace that I had never experienced before. But as time went by the joy left because I went back to my former way of life. I was torn between loving the Lord and the world.
During my senior year in high school, I re-consecrated myself to the Lord, and I started reading the Word on a regular basis. When I entered college my pursuit and fire for the Lord was still strong. However, in my second year of college things began to change. The Bible studies, the sermons, and everything else became lifeless to me. I desperately asked the Lord to show me something more.
A month later I met a Christian brother in the local church on the campus. He gave me a book to read entitled The Economy of God by Witness Lee. I read the book, and the Lord showed me many small revelations, which changed my Christian life. I saw for the first time that God's intention and purpose is to have many sons to express Himself (Romans 8:29) and that He dwells in our spirit (2 Timothy 1:14). While reading through this book, I felt every line, paragraph and chapter were the speaking of the Holy Spirit. I had never read something presented in such a living way, full of the depths and the hidden treasures in God's heart. I read a few more books after this such as The Tree of Life, The Knowledge of Life, and The Experience of Life by Witness Lee. These books opened many things in the Bible to me. They were keys that unlocked many hidden, deep mysteries of God (1 Corinthians 2:9, 10) in the Bible to me. Later, I became familiar with more of Witness Lee's books and also some of Watchmen Nee's books. Their books came out of a rich experience of God, and they conveyed many rich revelations that came out of their intimate prayer, fellowship and love for the Lord. Their writings have helped me love the Bible more because I have touched life, not just the knowledge in the Bible. I no longer just know about God in knowledge. I have experienced Him more in my daily life. My pursuit is Christ, and the speaking of these two men has pointed me to Christ. The Lord Jesus is my goal, and my experience of Him has become deeper through the writings of Witness Lee and Watchman Nee. I can openly declare, “I love the Word of God.”
